A native of McLean, VA, Doug Megill is President and CEO of McLean Insurance, a firm founded by his father in 1971. Doug holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Psychology from the University of Florida. Joining the agency in 1984 he was soon thrust into the leadership role when his father passed away in April of 1990 from a rare form of Leukemia. The agency has grown from roughly $1 Million of Insurance Premiums to over $15 Million during Doug’s leadership tenure.
In addition to founding and acting as the Chairman of Carz Cruizin to Cure Cancer, a local Charity Car Show honoring his father’s legacy by raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Doug is currently the Chairman of the Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia where he also served previously on the legislative, education, convention and Young Agents Committees as well as the Board of Directors of both the IIAV and the Virginia Financial Services Corporation (the for profit subsidiary of the IIAV). Locally he is currently an Executive Committee member of the Board of Directors for the Loudoun Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the Loudoun CEO Cabinet. He also founded and is the Underwriting committee chair for Westlake Reinsurance, an offshore captive reinsurance company specializing in worker’s compensation insurance.
During his career, Doug has served as President and Chairman of the Board of the Independent Insurance Agents of Northern Virginia, the local chapter of the IIAV. In addition to his past service to the insurance industry he has also served the community including having served as a board member for the McLean Chamber of Commerce (where he served as founding Treasurer under President Alice Starr), the McLean Rotary Club, the McLean Orchestra, Birthday Blessing, the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance, the University of Florida Alumni Association (Washington, DC Chapter) and the Independent Electrical Contractors Association -Chesapeake Chapter. In addition, he served on Inova Health System’s Gift and Estate Planning Team, and as board member and President for the McLean Rotary Foundation. He has also served on the organizing committee for the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties golf tournaments for the past ten years. In addition, Doug is a member of the Dulles, Fairfax, Loudoun, and McLean Chambers of Commerce. He is active in coaching youth baseball teams in the Lower Loudoun Little League for the past 15+ seasons and was an Assistant Scout Leader for Troop 572 in Potomac Falls where his son Daniel achieved the rank of Eagle Scout!
Despite Doug’s many professional and community activities he finds a little time to spend with his wife of 25 years, Anna and their three kids to enjoy fishing, golf, tennis, shooting, kayaking, skiing, gardening, car shows, horseback riding and going to wineries and bed and breakfasts.
