Celebrate for Success!from Kraig's 12 Seasons Here's the April edition of "12 Seasons" toolkit with tools for celebration, and what a powerful toolkit this is! Just by celebrating at the end of a goal period, you reinforce everyone's efforts that lead to success. People love this and are immediately re-motivated and rejuvenated! How to do it: first, appoint a Chief Fun Officer "CFO" and it might not be obvious, but this is seldom your Chief Financial Officer -- well, we just don't need any more creativity in accounting, but we sure do in celebrating. Ask your "CFO" to spend a couple hours a week, on average, on putting more fun, recognition, and celebration in place in your business. Second, equip your "CFO" with some ideas: Bob Nelson's two books "1001 Ways to Reward Employees" and "1001 Ways to Energize Employees" are good, as is the seventh chapter in my book "CEO Tools for Every Manager's Success." Third, network with your peers to find out which companies do celebration, and talk to company CEOs and executives who do recognition-fun-celebration for more new ideas. There are lots of these and if you are a Vistage or TEC Member, you can find a bunch through a network request through those organizations. Fourth, encourage your people to have fun, get your direct reports to embrace celebration, and continue to reinforce the great benefits of celebration with your "CFO" and others. Finally, this takes a little while to really "take," so keep on it. Believe me, it is worth the effort, since we've found that recognition and celebration pay off 10,000-to-1 over incentive compensation schemes, and yet celebration costs so much less with a much bigger bang!
