![]() Very Profitable Growthfrom Kraig's 12 Seasons Twelve Seasons 2008 begins with what promises to be a good but challenging year. Our first focus probably ought to be profitable growth. What a concept! For me, the greatest producer of profitable growth has always been "tracking." Tracking isn't just measuring or numbers or metrics or key performance indicators, or whatever. Tracking is an ongoing mechanism that uses all those things to help us really see what is happening, both now and on out into the future. It's a way -- a very special way -- the way, almost a Zen-like thing. It is a life-long learning, improving system of seeing what my business is doing and is going to do. Here's a great example: take a look at the newest tool on my website www.ceotools.com by clicking on New Tools Catalog and then on the PDF for CEO's Ultimate Dashboard. You'll see an 8-chart tracking tool that as CEO I use constantly. It shows the key things I want to watch and pro-act on, rather than react to. You'll see that nearly all of the measures being tracked are not financial, but rather business, key indicators. They happen before accounting can catch them; they drive the financials. What if you had a living dashboard keyed to the things you need to pro-manage? What if your CFO had the CFO Dashboard, custom-tailored to his pro-actions? And your other direct reports with their customized dashboards? And what if they over-lap enough to cover everything your business experiences and will experience, yet also coordinate with each other! Having the right tracking system is essential. Hopefully this concept and associated tools will trigger incredible profitable growth for you in 2008. And, even more, an ongoing learning experience that's ever-better. With warm regards, |
